Panama has done many things right.  In its current legislation, the Residency Visa is very possible. With little trouble you can call Panama home and take advantage of the great benefits that come with being here.

The only way to apply for residency in Panama is through a Panamanian lawyer. The lawyer's responsibility is to confirm your identity, and provide all the documentation that is required to the government.  If you're looking for options, Panama offers the most affordable options we know of when it comes to residency.

New regulations went into effect on August 26, 2008, and Panama now offers several options such as:

1. The Pensioner Visa that requires a retirement pension for a minimum of $1,000.00 monthly.  Another option is to purchase at least $100,000.00 of real estate in Panama which will reduce the monthly income requirement to $750.00. The Pensioner Visa is the easiest residence visa to opt for.
2. The Economic Self-Solvency Visa that requires a time deposit for 3 years in a local bank for a minimum of $300,000.00; or an investment of $300,000.00 in real estate in Panama; or a time deposit for 3 years and an investment in real estate, both totaling $300,000.00.
3. The Business Investor Visa that requires a minimum investment of $160,000.00 and to employ five Panamanians full time.
4. The Reforestation Investor Visa that requires an investment of at least $80,000.00 and a minimum purchase of 20 hectares (49.4 acres).
